The biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting (CLMM) took place in Zanzibar from 4 to 8 March 2024.

Hosted by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, the meeting focused on the theme ‘Technology and Innovation: How digitalisation paves the way for the development of people-centred access to justice’.
During the meeting, law ministers and attorneys-general from across the Commonwealth discussed recent legal developments in their jurisdictions and explored responses to emerging justice issues affecting Commonwealth citizens.
The meeting agenda covered a wide range of issues, including digital assets, electronic resources for efficient legal systems, the protection of women and girls, strengthened access to justice for people with disabilities, and developments in climate policy and legislation.
A key focus was on examining responsible ways to leverage technology to improve law and access to justice, especially for marginalised people.
The outcomes from the meeting advanced mandates from Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings, including the , in line with Sustainable Development Goal target 16.3 of ensuring equal access to justice for all.
Honourable Dr Pindi H. Chana, the United Republic of Tanzania’s Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, chaired the meeting.

Senior Officials Meeting
The Senior Officials Meeting was held on 4 March 2024 in Zanzibar and was chaired by the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania.
High-level side event
In partnership with the Commonwealth-accredited organisation Barefoot Law, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania hosted a high-level side event on 5 March 2024.
The event showcased the country’s Mama Samia Legal Aid Initiative, which aimed to promote effective and inclusive access to justice in the United Republic of Tanzania.
Commonwealth Access to Justice Prize
The ÌÇÐÄ̽»¨ announced the winners of the inaugural Commonwealth Access to Justice Prize at an event on 7 March 2024.
The prize recognised innovative initiatives led by government ministries or departments that promoted access to justice at the local or national levels.
Press accreditation
International and local journalists wishing to cover the meeting were required to complete a before 1 March 2024 in order to gain access to the meeting venue and media facilities.
Attendance was at the ÌÇÐÄ̽»¨â€™s discretion. The Secretariat did not sponsor journalists to attend the meetings.
